I'm Suzanne McAleenan, a merrily content 40 year old who lives downtown Burlington (born and raised!). I have two tow-headed little girls, a dog, and a Scottish import husband. He's from a town just north of Edinburgh. Being married to a Scot seems to define me more than being a mother. It's certainly made me even more feisty and mouthy, I didn't think that was possible. He works from home, and I'm a stay-at-home-mom, and we bicker back and forth all day long: this makes us a very loud household. Our dog's name is Haggis, he's a Silky Terrier. He's a bit more rugged a version of a Yorkshire Terrier. He may be wee but he springs off those little legs and goes right for the jugular. It's a McAleenan thing.
A few years ago I headed up north for a weekend getaway. I was armed to the teeth with plastic craft shop felt: browns and taupes, with patterns for making my daughter's preschool teachers some woodland animal ornaments. Within a few hours, I discovered woodland animals just weren't my bag, baby, and I moved onto penis ornaments. The teachers loved them. I eventually found myself making vagina and boob ornaments from soft special-order wool-blend felt (penis ornaments were oddly too high maintenance), and Vaginament was born. My clients include sexual assault clinics across America, the Johns Hopkins Cancer Clinic, Church congregations, hospital nursing staff, midwifery students, doulas, obstetricians...my little vaginaments are all over and it makes me happy...all vaginas, all the time.
